Background Info:
Chicagoland's Shades of Al Davis formed from the ashes of Peck of Snide, which Steve and Mike played in during the late 80s. They coerced Alan to join up with them, and a single on the Parasol label and a self-titled tape release came about in the early 90s. These tracks (plus some others from that period) have now been made available as an Old 3C release. If you'd like to read Steve's essay on this collection, then by all means, have at it. Their latest effort, the very fine The Midwest Peace Talks Vols. 1, 2 CD (originally released by their Mallard Pointe label) is also now available via Old 3C. You should also check out Mike's latest project, the wonderful New Normal, featuring members of Young Fresh Fellows and other northwest indie-rock legends.
